More about me:
Hope. It’s why you’re here, reading this. You still have hope that things can be better in your life. You just need some help getting there. I’m so proud that you have the courage to consider counseling. Honestly, counseling isn’t easy, especially at first, but it’s so worth it when you start seeing things change for the better in your life. My job as a counselor is to help you find and navigate the path to “better” in your life.
When you first come in, we’ll spend some time getting to know each other, because YOU are important. We’ll talk about what’s going on in your life, discuss how things got to this place, figure out what you would like to change in order for things to be better, and work together to map out a plan to get there. If you’re familiar with counseling perspectives, I use a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), person centered, and solution focused therapy. We’ll work together on figuring out what is best for you. Most of the time, I will give you something to work on between our appointments, because that’s how we make changes, by practicing them. When we get back together, we’ll talk about how the changes worked, and will build on the positive results. My promise to you is that I will always be honest with you, and will be in your corner, helping you and encouraging you all along the way.
I know that choosing a counselor can be a challenge, so here’s a little bit about me. I’ve been married for a long time (over 35 years) to the same guy, and we have 5 grown children. I’m a Christian, and that permeates every part of my life. I see people of all faiths (or no faith), but use the Bible as the foundation for how I counsel. I started out my professional life as a teacher with a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University, then “retired” to raise my family. After having two biological children, we became a foster family, and adopted our 3 youngest children. During that time, I returned to school, got my Master’s degree in Human Development Counseling from the University of Illinois at Springfield, and started this career that I love. I’ve worked as a counselor for over 15 years in Illinois, 2 years in Austin, 2 years in Oklahoma City, and now back in Texas. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, singing, being creative, walking, doing yoga, and smooth water kayaking.
Over the years as a counselor and with training, I specialize in Christian counseling, couples counseling, grief/depression/anxiety/stress, parenting, and women’s concerns. I typically work with adults, and look forward to meeting YOU!
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a HOPE.”
