Mental Health Awareness
Now more than ever, we need to find ways to stay connected with our community. No one should feel alone or without the information, support and help they need.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Did you know that mental health problems are common in at least one out of every five people? This can cause people to think, act, and feel differently than they usually do. For a person going through these difficulties, the different feelings are very real and often scary. Stigma and discrimination cause many people to silently suffer. If you are struggling with mental illness, please seek help and stay connected with loved ones, friends, and a counselor. If you know someone with mental illness, please check in with them and help them get the help they need. Here are some facts about the growing mental illness epidemic:
1 in 5 adults in America experience a mental illness.
Nearly 1 in 25 (10 million) adults in America live with a serious mental illness.
Fewer that half of the adults in the U.S. who experience mental illness get the help they need.
One-half of all chronic mental illness begins by the age of 14; three-quarters by the age of 24.
Approximately 10.2 million adults have co-occurring mental health and other problematic disorders.
1 in 6 youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health condition.
Let’s break the stigma around mental illness!
